Nissan Leaf to Sound Like Cheap Sci-Fi Effect

Well, here you have it.  The Chevy Volt promises to have some dumb Star Trek noise associated with it and now Nissan has officially let us know that the soon-to-be-release Leaf will also be going corny Sci-Fi with its noisemaker.

This video is of the Leaf driving by and the associated “approach” sound it makes.  Not quite the “pbbbbt” of the Jetsons, but close enough.  Sounds like a bad effect from an equally bad 60′s martian invasion film.  I’m sure Orson Wells would have loved to have had this noise for his repertoire.

Anyway, these noises (they also have a beeper like the backup beeper on a semi truck for reverse) are all electronically-controlled, so they are, as I said before, hackable.

While the reverse beeper might be worth hacking, I’d say this cheesy noise is probably worth keeping.  Maybe amplified a little to accentuate it’s corniness.  It might also be worth compromising the Leaf’s aerodynamics to ad some jet-like wings and phaser cannons to the car.

PEW PEW!  Martians beware!

Buck Rogers has nothing on Nissan.
