ElectroCat and Eva Planning Pikes Peak Run

I’ve found out that Eva Hakansson, of KillaCycle fame, will be riding her personal electric motorcycle up Pike’s Peak

The paved bits of Pikes Peak

this June.  She’s made several upgrades to the ElectroCat resulting in a new top speed of 100mph and a little better battery life.

A few days ago, I mentioned the Pike’s Peak rally run and what it entails: miles of twisting, turnbuckling, nasty roads, most of which aren’t paved.  Oh, and don’t forget the sheer dropoffs.  It’s one of those roads where normal, sane people just look at it and say “only a lunatic would ride up there.”  Personally, I like Audi’s plans to use a robotic car and just sit back, relax, watch the car drive up the hill, then hop on a helicopter and fly up to the top to gather the glory.

But hey, no guts, no glory.  (No sense of personal endangerment.)

Enter Eva.

The good news is that I’ll be meeting Eva and her ElectroCat this weekend, before she goes on this Pike’s Peak Death Ride in June.  So I’ll get some pictures, look at the motorcycle as it is now, and try not to lecture her like a mother hen on what safety really means.

Joking aside, I wish Eva luck and know that she’s not planning some Devil Ride up the hill.  At the very least, she’s doing it without tailpipe emissions.  Gotta give kudos for that.  Plus she has a bunch of killer biker gear with all the padded stuff and helmeted whatnots and flaming decals and other coolness.  All I have is a leather jacket and no motorcycle license.*

*Note that despite having a Class A CDL with Hazmat endorsement, my wife won’t let me ride a motorcycle or fly airplanes.  But I can haul 40,000 pounds of explosives and she’s fine with that.  Women..
