According to some study by some people who have too much time on their hands and access to government grants, if you’re into eco-living or generally being “green,” you’re likely an ass. At least this was done with Canadian grants instead of ours. I never did trust those Canooks. They think curling is a real sport. I guess if your driveway keeps freezing over so you can’t play shuffleboard…
So anyway, these Canadian people (Nina Mazar and Chen-Bo Zhong) did a study where they found that people who are environmentally conscious (“green”) are, basically, real SOBs. What they (say they) found is that people who are green minded are also prone to lying, cheating, and generally being mean a-holes.
What I’m wondering is who their control group was, because it’s been my experience that most people are pretty good people, but if you are Canadian… well, how should I know if you’re decent? You produce jackasses like Tom Green and Celine Dion, for hell’s sakes. Bunch of crackpots exporting moose meat and snow.
Anyway, the whole study can be explained away pretty easily without having to resort to pointing out that it’s authors are Canaidan. They’re also psychologists.
Ya, next to lawyers, psychologists are, in themselves, some of the most dubious people around anyway. I mean, in the pecking order of questionable humanity, you have politicians, lawyers, and psychologists. Politicians pretend to be your friend, lawyers get paid to speak half-truths, and psychologists pretend to be scientists while basically just making shit up.
If you’re interested in reading their psychobabble, you can read it at Psychological Science (now there’s an oxymoron for ya). I first saw this at AutoBlogGreen and then Gas2.0.
