Ya, I’m opinionated and that was proved when I went off on the “Toyota vs. Dodge” thing yesterday. LeRoy B, a commenter, asked what would be my favorite car. Well, that depends on how you want to qualify it, LeRoy-whosenameisthesameasmydog’s. Does it have to be a “car” per se and does it have to be alt-fuel too?
The first limitation is a serious one for me, but the second one isn’t since I still have a lot of leeway if it merely has to be alternatively fueled or even all-electric. So I’ll give my favorites by category.
Favorite Electric Car (Pure Battery Electric/BEV)
The Aptera 2e. This car rocks. Too bad the company is having such difficulties, having hired two questionable executives who immediately dumped the founders of the company and are busy pillaging it for all it’s worth. Oh well. The car still whoops buttocks.
Favorite Electric Vehicle (non-BEV)
The New Holland NH2 fuel cell tractor. This thing is all kinds of awesome. It’s basically a T6000 using electric motors (one for the wheels, one for the PTO, both at 105hp) and hydrogen with a fuel cell for power storage. Very, very cool.
Favorite Vehicle, Bar None
This is a rough one. I’m torn between two options, one a favorite from my childhood and the other that’s just all kinds of awesome.
The first pick is my favorite tractor from childhood, the International Harvester Farmall 400:
The other is the Mercedes Unimog, specifically the models built before 2000 with the metal bodies. Some of the 1960s and 1970s models with 4-cylinder diesels are pretty sweet. Here’s a Danish Army model:
Anyone else have any interesting questions for me to answer? :) This was fun!
