The FedEx fleet just got larger with the addition of four new electric delivery vans being requisitioned by the freight company for urban door-to-door delivery duties. The first left Chicago today, one of two from Navistar, the other to be delivered by June. Two more will follow those from an as yet unnamed manufacturer.
The FedEx branded delivery trucks are package delivery vans meant for the stop-and-go urban environment and will serve in the Los Angeles area under a new test by FedEx. The electric vans have a 100 mile range per charge and are capable of a full eight hour shift under normal conditions in LA.
As Green Car Congress reports, FedEx works closely with California’s CALSTART and has recently hit the 5 million mile mark on their whole fleet of hybrid trucks.
FedEx runs the world’s largest fleet of alt-fuel vehicles and plans to raise fuel efficiency by 20% by 2020. 20 by ’20. Catchy, eh?
